Risk and Insurance Program

Public entities face significant challenges in their efforts to reduce the frequency and cost of claims and litigation. The Risk Management staff specialize in the management of risk management services and the administration of general liability, automobile liability, property and medical malpractice self-insured programs.

About The Program

The Risk Management Division of Human Resources acquires insurance for the County of Riverside and its affiliated agencies and boards, assists with contract review and manages the internal service fund. Risk Management claim personnel adjudicate tort claims presented against the County. Risk Management personnel are tasked with the responsibility to maintain claim files, contracts Management Guidelines and HIPAA regulations.

Due to the unique complexities of County operations, we participate in a number of specialty insurance programs offered by PRISM:

Aviation

Cover all aspects of airport operations and/or the liability of their aircraft

Crime

This program provides coverage for illegal acts committed by employees while on the job.

Cyber Liability

This program provides comprehensive electronic information and security liability coverage.

General Liability I

Coverage for claims from third parties alleging damages due to negligence including Housing Authority and In-Home Support Services.

General Liability II

Coverage for claims from third parties alleging damages due to negligence.

Medical Malpractice

The Medical Malpractice (Med Mal) program provides coverages for alleged negligence arising from health care operations including, clinics, hospitals, behavioral health, public health, jails, coroner operations, and more.

Optional Excess Liability

Limits in excess of the underlying from GL1 or GL2 Programs.

Pollution

This environmental program provides public entities coverage for bodily injury, property damage, and cleanup costs caused by pollution conditions at scheduled owned or leased sites or arising from certain operations.

Property

Real and Personal Property, Boiler and Machinery, Flood, Earthquake, and more.

Special Events

This program offers public entities premises liability coverage for a broad range of events held by underinsured third parties in public assembly facilities.

Claims

Special Liability Insurance Program (SLIP)

SLIP is unique in that it offers a customized, manuscript form developed specifically for small public entities and not-for-profit organizations that offers a wide range of liability coverage.

Special Property Insurance Program (SPIP)

Limits in excess of the underlying from GL1 or GL2 Programs.

Travel Accident

Provides accident protection while on business trips.

Vendor/Contractors

Provides insurance coverage for small public entity vendors and contractors who do not carry their own insurance coverage.

Volunteer

This program provides coverage for volunteers. Accident insurance, volunteer liability insurance and excess automobile liability insurance.
